Once you've chosen a community, a little preparation makes move-in day smooth and calm. Use this checklist for the documents to bring, what to pack, and how to help your loved one settle in.

Direct answer: Bring identification, insurance cards, the signed resident agreement, a physician's report, and a current medication list (plus advance directives and power of attorney if applicable). Pack comfortable labeled clothing, toiletries, and familiar comforts — then focus the first weeks on helping your loved one settle in.

- Signed resident agreement and payment information

- Current medication list and prescriptions
- Advance directives, living will, or POLST if applicable
